Originated from Shang Han Lun (Treatise on Disorders Caused by Cold) written by Zhang Zhongjing(150–219), “Head of All Remedies” Gui Zhi Tang remains the most versatile and quintessential formula. The warming and acrid nature of cinnamon twig along with the ginger, warm the channel and expel the cold, releasing the exterior and transforming Qi into Yang energy.

Gui Zhi Tang works as a preventative treatment for cold during the change of season and especially in cold temperature. It enhances the immunity and strengthens body’s capacity to guard against external pathogens during the flu season. Gui Zhi Tang also has the function to increase blood circulation in the gut and the Heart.

 

INGREDIENTS

Cinnamon Twig (Gui Zhi, 桂枝) 

White Peony Root (Bai Shao, 白芍)

Fresh Ginger (Sheng Jiang, 生姜) (NOT INCLUDED. PLEASE ADD BEFORE COOKING) 

Jujube Date (Da Zao, 大枣)

Dry-fried Licorice Root (Zhi Gan Cao 炙甘草)

 THE HERBS EXPLAINED

Cinnamon Twig (Gui Zhi, 桂枝)- Warms the channel; releases the exterior; invigorates Yang, and relieves pain.

White Peony Root (Bai Shao, 白芍) - Astringes the Yin and adjusts the Ying and Wei.

Fresh Ginger (Sheng Jiang, 生姜)- Releases the exterior, relieves nausea and vomiting, neutralizes and strengthens the actions of other herbs. 

Jujube Date (Da Zao, 大枣) - Harmonizes the Spleen and Stomach, nourishes Blood and Qi.

Dry-fried Licorice Root (Zhi Gan Cao 炙甘草) -Tonifies Qi and harmonizes the middle; neutralizes the harsh properties of the other herbs. 

 

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS  

This product contains 120 grams for 9 servings. Drink 3 times a day for 3 days. Stop if symptoms are relieved. 

1.  Gently rinse the herbs.

2.  Place the herbs along with the ginger in pot. 

3.  Pour 2L of water into the pot.

4.  Bring to a boil with high heat, then lower to medium heat and cook for another 20-25 min. 

5.  Strain the herbs when ready

6.  Divide the soup into three and drink it up three times a day. 

7.  Always drink hot or warm!
